Josee Frappier, Green Knits Founder
23 year old florist who is addicted to coffee and all things related to knitting and crocheting.
What made you decide to start this business?
Honestly, I never planned on selling my work. I've always loved creating new items for friends and family, it was the perfect way to give me a chance to learn new techniques. It wasn't until about June when my boyfriend convinced me to start selling the projects I came up with, saying that the items I was creating were unique and he was sure that he wasn't the only person who thought so. Luckily the flower shop I work at is owned by both my parents, so when I told them I was interested in selling some of my work at the shop, they were more than happy to help me as long as my mom got first dibs which worked perfectly for me.
What are you most excited about for your business?
I'm excited to see all the things I'll be able to create. I've always been in love with warm and cozy accessories and I'm sure I'm not the only one out there! I think it helps living in Sudbury where most of the year it's freezing, so I'm sure there won't be a shortage of wanted cozy accessories.
Motivated by all the makers on her Instagram feed - It may seem like a small app where people post pictures of their food or places they've been, but there's definitely more than meets the eye. There is so much inspiration just pouring out of all those who post their finished projects in the knitting community, it's hard keeping up with everything! Theres a constant debate if she should pause on one project and start another. She is driven to better her crafting because of the Instagram inspiration. Recommendation: checking out everyone at OurMakerLife
Can you give me a description on your business?
I make custom crochet/knitwear, ranging from hats, scarves, mittens, to blankets, pillow cases, etc...
What are your roles/contributions to your business?
I design and create all the items available for sale. I also manage all the social media aspect of Green Knits.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
When I get into a knitting block, or if my hands get a little sore from hours of working on a project, I always take a break with video games. I've been playing them since I can remember. Though knitting has taken up a lot of my time, (not that I'm complaining) I'll always squeeze in a few hours a week on a game. Currently I'm working through the Assassin's Creed Series.
If you had a super power, what would it be?
That's easy, my super power would be to control time. I always find by the end of the night when I should be going to bed, I always manage to convince myself to knit one last row.. which will turn into until I finish this hat.. which will turn into me staying up way past my bedtime. So if I suddenly develop the power to stop time, you can definitely expect my to make my weekends extra long so I can finish even more projects.
What is next for you?
I plan on opening an Etsy shop so I can start selling my work worldwide. I also want to start attending local craft shows and selling my work at next year's farmer's market downtown. One thing at a time of course.
