School’s back in session, but the best part of it—back to school shopping—doesn’t have to end!
And, who says back to school shopping is just for kids?
There’s something about the cooling days and harvest season that calls for a celebration of all things comfortable. What a better way to do so than with some artisan soaps, gourmet foods, and handmade local art?
If you’re tired of looking at pencil crayons and calculators, or bored with doing all your specialty shopping online, we’ve got an event for you.
The market takes place at the Laurentian Living with Lakes Centre at 840 Ramsey Lake Road. It runs 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and entry is by donation to the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth.
The market will feature handmade wares from more than 25 different vendors from across the North—from Sudbury to Manitoulin to Sault Ste Marie.
There are over 30 cities taking part in the Made in Canada market, and Sudbury’s very own Makers North Collective is running the local version in collaboration with Etsy.
The collective was started by Tracy Baker and Julieanne Steedman after they met in 2016 at an event where they were both selling their wares. Baker is a graphic designer and illustrator who goes by the alias Tracy Lou Who, and Steedman makes art and home goods under the brand Heirloom Island.
The two artists bonded over their appreciation of locally made art and decided to form the Makers North Collective to curate beautiful, handmade goods.
Since then, they’ve hosted several markets that feature premium products and aim to raise the idea of a market.
This, however, is their first Etsy market, and they’re looking forward to it. They received plenty of help and material from Etsy, but all of the people and products are from right here in the North.
Along with beautifully handcrafted goods, you can look forward to a yoga and dance session by Zen Fitness’ Jenn Ricker, coffee and baked goods from Beards, and grilled cheese from Grill’D Cheese 2 Pls.
If you can’t make it to the September Etsy market, don’t fear! There is a dedicated Makers North Handmade Holiday Market coming Nov. 4, with more details coming out soon!
