Blogging 101

What makes a blogger successful? Being new to blogging, we’ve done a lot of reading and researching to determine how we want to outline ours and trust us, we are nowhere near perfect. Not only do you need to get it off the ground and address a variety of topics, but you also need to provide constant attention to it. It takes a significant amount of work to get a blog started.

If you’re looking to start a blog, through all our reading and research we wanted to share with you a few tips that has helped us so far. Luckily, we live in a world that allows you to make awesome websites for budget friendly prices.  We use Shopify for our website, and not having any background in coding it sure makes a difference for how easy it is to use.

What is your main goal?
For us, we operate as an eCommerce website selling lifestyle gift boxes sourced locally. Our focus is to bring in customers who are looking to experience awesome new local products and services. Our blog is to help build a community around shopping and supporting local.

So what is the main purpose of the site you want to create? The biggest difference you should consider is whether your site is mainly a blog, a website or an e-commerce store selling products online.

Building Content

You need to build compelling content that attracts your specific audience. This can be one of the toughest parts about building a blog, to have consistent content for your audience to stay engaged. By keeping your audience engaged you also need to nurture and grow over time. This means staying on top of the activity and building a community. We suggest e-mail marketing or a social media platform to stay regularly engaged with them.

 Photos Photos Photos
Luckily, we have a few friends of SIAB who capture amazing photos that are always open to sharing. The visuals will always be important. Determine the layout of your blog, what types of photos you want to use and stay consistent with that. Play around with different features and make sure you like the look and feel of the blog posts.

If anything, we last thing we can leave you with is to check the mobile version of your website– you would hate for it to downsize and look completely different from your lap top version.

Are you currently blogging? Thinking of getting started? We want to know and we’re always looking for guest posts!
